Life update + self promo

Oh Lord. If you’re one of the roughly 3 people who read my blog, you’ve noticed that I haven’t written in a while. So, what’ve I been up to since I’ve been gone?

PepsiCo multitouch installation

Work, mostly. StruckAxiom pulled off a kamikaze mission for PepsiCo—a multitouch installation on a super short timeline. You can read about the project at the StruckAxiom blog.

Also, on a whim, I tweeted a link to the post I did on the LEGO CL!CK site at FITC, an industry conference that’s been on my radar and inspiring me since school. The most I was hoping for was to get the link retweeted, but instead was asked to repost it on the FITC blog and to be a guest blogger for StruckAxiom on the FITC blog.

My first (and so far only—I need to get back on that) original post for FITC was titled “Lessons Learned: Adventures in Multitouch.” It was a pretty heady experience, having my first real post up, but even better was discovering that Lee Brimelow, Platform Evangelist at Adobe, has blogged about it, and highlighted it during his session at FITC Toronto.

Rigby Lake traithlon

Outside of work-related nonsense, I’ve been training. I competed in my first triathlon of the season over Memorial Day Weekend—a sprint triathlon at Rigby Lake. It was a cold, windy, rainy day, and a pretty miserable experience, but I got through it, and have my sights set higher—a Half Ironman at the end of the summer. But more about that later.

So, fingers crossed, you’ll hear from me soon!

Call it a new day

Well, hey there – if you’re reading this, welcome, thanks for reading.

This is, as far as I’m concerned, the relaunch of my blog, here with a new name on a new domain. I’ve left the old posts, however, so you can poke through my sporadic posts from my senior year – chuckle a little at how bad I was at keeping up with my blogging, how I’d promise to post about things, then fail to… hopefully, this time things will be a little different.

I’ll be tweaking the design of the blog as it goes along – trying to keep it fairly simple, so that when I post lots of visual content (again, the burden is on me for that) it’ll shine.

Going to keep this short – it’s past my self-imposed bedtime, work in the morning… but coming up in the next week or two:

  • the work I’ve been contributing to at Struck
  • a little bit of personal work
  • One Laptop Per Child, and the amazing (to me, anyway) tidbit about it that I just discovered tonight

… and who knows what else. Watch this space!

Graduation Day

No, this isn’t my graduation day – in fact, that was over a week ago.

However, this is initially a recognition of my graduation – yes, I have graduated from RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) with a BFA from the New Media Design & Imaging program. I’ve got a job lined up at Struck Creative in Salt Lake City, and I’m moving down there tomorrow (or tonight, depending on your position on whether midnight constitutes ‘tomorrow’).

However, this is also a mission statement, a looking-into-the-future statement, a goal list. What you will be seeing on this blog in the months to come, as I get this whole “real life” thing figured out.

  • I will be posting! I know, it’s crazy… but I actually want to spend some time talking – maybe I can share some interesting things with friends, maybe it’s just good to practice writing and getting my thoughts on any given topic in order…
  • The blog will get a makeover (but not before the makeover I’m working on for Poorer Than You – a fantastic personal finance blog that I think anyone that, you know, spends money, should be reading.
  • It’ll be moving locations, from its current location onto my own space, adamluptak.com. (Yeah, I have my own domain name – it’s a trip).
  • Writing and sharing on a number of topics – I know that this mis-mash isn’t the recipe for “successful, professional blogging” – but for now, this is what I want to do. Share with friends, and anyone else who will listen, things that I’ve got on my mind. Maybe it’ll grow into something more focused down the road, who knows. In no particular order:
    • New Media experiments and sketches, just to grow
    • Professional and personal work
    • Random life news
    • Recipes or cooking misadventures as I try to expand my food horizons
    • Discussion of global poverty
    • Discussion of slums
    • Discussion of development (talking here about improving conditions in impoverished countries)
    • Discussion of sustainability
    • General soapboxing on any number of things.

So yeah. All of that to come soon. I don’t know if anyone is reading, but if you are – watch this space.

First post and FWA

Starting up this blog today – a requirement for Jason’s Dynamic Persuasion course. Should be useful though.

School is just starting up, senior year… over the summer, had an internship with the folks at Struck… and pretty stoked to see a site I was helping with get the FWA Site of the Day award this morning… The Official Mancave, a site for Alltel Wireless. Man, I just wish Phase 2 had launched, cause it’s gonna be even better…
